March 24, 2008

2008 was the coolest (temperature wise) year of the last 10 years. Another little known fact, centenarians (people over 100 yrs. in age) are the fastest growing demographic group worldwide. There are currently 84,000 of them in the US, 30,000 in Japan. Resveratrol is the component of red wine that activates a gene called SIRT-1, which is normally activated by starvation. SIRT-1extends life in part by reducing lipofuscin that accumulates in human cells. Some pharmaceutical companies are testing much more potent versions of SIRT-1. Drink up, all you wannabe centenarians. (Glen Harlan Reynolds, Forbes Magazine, March 30, 2009, check out his website Instapundit.com)
